Grades
Many recipes come with a short minigame. Finish it and you are graded C, B, A or S. Fail it and you are not graded at all.
The game remembers your best grade for every recipe, and that record only ever goes up.
- A recipe with a minigame has to be made by hand once before you can craft it automatically. Until then the game tells you: "Need to manually craft this item at least once."
- A few recipes can only ever be made by hand: "This recipe can only be focused crafted."
The crafting pages show which recipes have a minigame.
Quality by grade
Only gear rolls a quality when it is made: weapons, armor and jewelry, plus the unfinished bows, crossbows, wands and staves covered below. Everything else comes out plain.
By hand, the odds come from the grade you just scored:
| Grade | Common | Uncommon | Rare | Epic | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| C | 69% | 29% | 2% | Never | Never |
| B | 33% | 36% | 29% | 2% | Never |
| A | 16% | 34% | 40% | 9% | 1% |
| S | Never | 15% | 66% | 17% | 2% |
On automatic, the odds come from your best grade for that recipe:
| Grade | Common | Uncommon | Rare | Epic | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| C | 80% | 19% | 1% | Never | Never |
| B | 40% | 40% | 19% | 1% | Never |
| A | 20% | 40% | 34% | 5.5% | 0.5% |
| S | 11% | 26% | 51% | 11% | 1% |
By hand beats automatic at every grade, and an S by hand never comes out Common. What each quality means is on item quality and modifiers.
Your first craft
The first time you finish a recipe's minigame, the item is always Common, whatever grade you scored. Score an S on that first attempt and you get a second copy as a bonus, rolled normally at S.
Experience
| How you craft | Experience |
|---|---|
| By hand, graded C to S | x1.75 |
| By hand, failed | None |
| Automatic | x1 |
Some crafting stations multiply the experience on top of that. Every craft also adds a little curse, usually 6, whether or not it earned experience.
Unfinished weapons carry their quality
Unstrung bows and crossbows and unenchanted wands and staves are made with a quality of their own. When you string or enchant one, the finished weapon keeps that quality and rolls fresh modifiers. So the grade that counts for a bow is the one you scored on the unstrung bow, not the stringing.
More generally, if a recipe uses up an item that already has a quality and makes a compatible item, the result keeps the quality instead of rolling a new one.
