Gullible Roger

"I am Roger Daht, esquire," he introduces himself. The quest log calls him Gullible Roger and "a Northgaelian soldier", and you guess as much from his armor: "Definitely Northgaelian." His story of how he got there: "a kindly forest man in raggedy armor informed me of some treasure in this great pit", and then "something must have bumped or kicked me into this accursed hole". The quest log finds him "laid out at the base of the shaft with a broken leg". In Deep Trouble you patch him up and escort him back to the surface through the Abyss.

On the way out he complains about everything: "I never even wanted this job in the first place, it was my parents you see? I'm from a well to do family in Guildhorne, but they sent me out to join the guard!" They said "it would teach me how to behave", and now "they pay is awful and the work is gruelling, and half the time I have to sleep outside in the cold!" As for the other soldiers, "they just don't understand the importance of bathing every single day like I do."

Oh good spheres, I am glad to find someone of kind heart in even the darkest of places! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Roger Daht, esquire.

Well maybe being a soldier for a little longer isn't the worst thing for me, is it? I'll be heading off to get to my cot and get some much needed rest!
