Iris Achate is your friend from the Facturr Estate, where your story begins. Looking back on your life there, you remember:

It was reassuring to be around people like that, but it was a single person most of all who seemed to take me under their wing.

In Humble Beginnings she has "generously" let you "sleep past midday" in the spare bedchamber, and now "it's time for us to prepare dinner for everyone!" When she tells you to fetch five chickens and teases you about portion control, you remind her "I've seen what you can do to a cake in one sitting." That night she and Kenneth go to the gate to look into some guards, and she comes running back: "Undead are approaching the estate from the road!" and "I watched them drag Kenneth off into the woods!" When you offer to "buy you some time so you can get everyone out", she protests ("What?! No! Have you lost your mind"), until Lord Facturr takes her away. As she goes she calls back: "don't just swing wildly. Watch them, and pick your moment!"

When you come to in Kal Crossing, Captain Badon tells you the attack "happened a few weeks ago", and that the survivors were brought to Kal Crossing, "although one woman insisted on staying behind." Asked whether she had "a loud voice and a very gung-ho personality", he answers: "That she did." In One Short Lesson you must "gear up to track down a lost friend from your past."
