1 spot in all. Regions are the wiki's best reading of the map: the game itself does not draw region borders.

Shining Leaves the Elder leads the Spot Caps, the mushroom-like people who "quietly tend the forest and hide from outsiders" in a village hidden in the Moorne. Spot Caps live short lives, and "By the time we learn to speak- we return to the world." He has "lived long enough to learn to do so, a rare thing among our kind." When you first meet him in The Bloat he is in his den, dying of "a disease they call The Bloat."
"Spot Caps" is not their word for themselves. It is what humans named them "without inquiring", and their own language does not translate:
Our language has no easy translation, do you interpret the words of the sea by the way the waves crash upon the shore? You can only infer what it means, we have come to accept this moniker begrudgingly. You may call me Shining Leaves the Elder, but you will not need to remember this for long.
He remembers the Moorne as it was, "so vast- stretching the entire continent", and blames its shrinking on "years of subjugation under the Simaros, and just as many alongside those that did not protect the Moorne." He speaks straight into your head ("did you forget that we talk in your head?") and he is not sure he wants other humans finding the grove. After you save him he says: "The Moorne owes you a debt I am not sure I can repay."
Spoilers: In Search of the Past, Losing the Future
He believes his people will be gone "within the next hundred or so years" unless they use the runes to "flee this realm forever through a runic portal", which he calls "Our only remaining option". When [[Orvyn Argotte]] insists on taking the translations back to Northgaelia, Shining Leaves kills him, because Orvyn "threatened to take our last chance away from us." What happens to him after that is your choice, in [[quest:In Search Of The Past Losing The Future]].
In that moment I thought of my people, the thought of them being left without a future, having the humans take our last hope away from us, and I acted in their best interest. I am sorry.
In his own words
A human comes here? My, I haven't seen your kind in many moons. Perhaps you should stay away, I wouldn't want to infect you as well.
My apologies, I forget that humans cannot read each other's thoughts, or simply snatch thoughts from the air as if they were falling snow.
No, you are our honored guests. Allow us to prepare, and you may partake with us. There is no food or drink at this festival, but good company, song, and dance for all to enjoy.
