The story behind it
The poet Mcgee is already dead when you come across his headstone, and even that rhymes. It also tells you where to look next:
Here rests the old poet mcgee,
He wished to leave a legacy,
By his house right in town,
A courtyard there around,
In flowery greens is the Key.
His diary rhymes too: "This is the Diary of the Poet Mcgee. Despite being a poet, there is far more to he! Pottery, painting, sculpting! A renaissance man for the hours!" As you read it you remark, "Hah, even his personal notes are in rhyme." The later entries are sadder. His apprentice left him ("to be abandoned by my own apprentice!"), and he never finished the painting they started together.
My apprentice who years ago fled, I saw you from afar and how you hold your head, How you helped this kingdom spread.
How with commoners you'd break bread, How you pushed on and led. I can sleep, I know you will do well, even when I am dead.
My only regret is that I cannot finish our painting together from my bed.
The Diary of Poet Mcgee
Mack Errol, his friend and neighbour, remembers the two of them as "the best of friends back then", and thinks both of them would take back how it ended: "In the end they had a spat and she stopped coming to work, I'm sure that the both of them would go back and change it, if only they could."
Spoilers: the apprentice
The apprentice is [[Liza]], now the stewardess of the kingdom. She left because she felt "a responsibility to become the stewardess of the kingdom", and after their argument believed he did not want her back. When she finishes the painting, she hopes to paint again "one day when the kingdom is at peace."
